Great news from Brazil

I have just learned that the corn replacement programme for the Lear’s macaw population in Bahia in north-eastern Brazil will be starting up again soon after the Covid-19 lock-down. I’ll be posting more news soon.

Kilma Manso’s team will be travelling around compensating farmers for any loss of corn crop because of the local Lear’s macaws. Just over $22,000 has been budgeted for the operation of which more than 70% is for the sacks of corn (1,000 x 60kg sacks). Most of the rest is to cover the travelling expenses of the team as they tour the area visiting small farms and compensating farmers.

Donations are welcomed for this. The project is led by the Lymington Foundation and is supported by several important organisations such as the Loro Parque Foundation and the Parrot Society UK. .
