Lear’s Macaw update

Lear’s Macaw update

I reported several times last year on the situation with the proposed wind farm in Bahia, which could seriously endanger the local wildlife, especially Lear’s Macaws. Parrots magazine has just published two articles on the situation by Rosemary Low in the April and May 2022 issues. The article in the April 2022 issue "Power lines that kill endangered species" and the follow-up article in the May 2022 issue "Lear’s Macaw update" can be read in the content section "Lear’s Macaws in the wild."

Kilma Manso, who heads up the team looking after the Lear’s Macaw population, is fortunately being helped by Dr. Luciana Khoury of the Bahia State Public Ministry, who is the public attorney in charge of the Raso da Catarina Region’s environmental problems. She is requesting an emergency meeting with the power company to request that they immediately modify the poles that have not been adapted.
