12 Lear’s macaws go to Paradise Park, Cornwall
At the beginning of the year (2023) Harewood House decided to close its Bird Garden. It was finally closed to the public on 22nd February 2023. Then the team there started to re-home the livestock. This included 12 Lear’s Macaws, three of them - a male and two females - were macaws confiscated by the authorities in 1998 as they were illegally imported and the remaining nine were their offspring. It was eventually decided to send them to Paradise Park in Cornwall. Paradise Park built large aviaries for them, which enable them to fly, and the macaws moved there at the end of May 2023.
