Final report for the corn replacement project in Bahia
This is a very important project as the farmers may shoot the macaws to protect their fields
I have put the final report for 2013 for the corn replacement project in Bahia. The growing population of Lear's macaws has been raiding the maize fields of the local farmers, who rely on their crop to feed their family and sell any surplus. A team has been active for several years to assess the damage caused and compensate the farmers with vouchers to obtain replacement corn. This is a very important project as the farmers may shoot the macaws to protect their fields. If you would like to contribute please contact the organisation local to you that is actively involved. This would be, for example, AFA in the USA and the Parrot Society in the UK.
