The number of Spix’s Macaws has reached 331

A report in the December 2023 issue of the German magazine "Papageien" has revealed that the number of Spix’s Macaws has reached 331. The ACTP curator, Vladislav Marcuk, gave this information at a seminar for parrot breeders held at the Exota Olomouc in mid-October in the Czech Republic . He said that at the beginning of the year there were 293 specimens, incuding the 13 re-introduced to the wild in Brazil. Of the 20 parrots originally in the wild four were predated and three others just disappeared. Up to the middle of October 2023 43 young birds were raised bringing the total to 331.  

214 of the birds are in the ACTP breeding aviaries in Germany, 58 in the re-introduction aviaries in Brazil, 31 in the Brazilian breeding station of Facenda Cachoeira, where four young birds were raised ths year and 28 in Belgium at Paira Daiza.
