the pair of Spix's Macaws at Loro Parque produced two eggs last month
If the hatching would be successful, this will be the first Spix's macaw produced at the world famous zoo in Tenerife since 1992
I have received confirmation that the pair of Spix's Macaws at Loro Parque produced two eggs last month - see news below on 24th May 2004. The first was infertile, but the second laid three days later on 14th May was fertile. It is expected to hatch on 10th June. If successful this will be the first Spix's macaw produced at the world famous zoo in Tenerife since 1992. It is the result of a new pairing. The male of the former pair was returned to Brazil and a new younger male brought back to Loro Parque in December 2003 and after quarantine introduced to the female. A result like this was not expected for some time. We all wish Loro Parque success in hatching and rearing the new arrival.
